Education for Students
One of the primary tenants of the San Diego Ad Club agenda is education for both professionals and aspiring ad industry professionals. We encourage and assist the best students to further their career in advertising.
AAF's National Student Advertising Competition
This is the premier college advertising competiton. It provides more than 3000 college students with real-world experience by requiring the development of a strategic advertising/marketing/media campaign for a corporate sponsor.
Schools from each AAF District are selected to present their campaigns to a panel of industry executives at the AAF National Conference. As a result of this competition, students are given the opportunity to show their talents to recruiters from major agencies around the country often resulting in internships and jobs.
San Diego is proud to have two NSAC teams participating: The Art Institute of CA, San Diego and San Diego State University. The Ad Club Board is working with additional universities and colleges to create an AAF NSAC team on more San Diego campuses.
Past sponsors of the AAF - NSAC include: Chrysler, Saturn, Yahoo, Coca Cola, Bank of America and many more since 1973. The 2009 Sponsor was The Century Council, a national not-for-profit organization funded by distillers dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. More Information
AAF Student ADDYs
As part of the San Diego ADDYs Creative Show, the San Diego Ad Club encourages student participation in the Student ADDYS. All student entries are judged by the same judges for the professional ADDYs.
All San Diego Student ADDY Gold winners are forwarded to the AAF District 15 Competition and those winners move on to the AAF National ADDYs Competition.
The Art Institute of CA, San Diego, has an exemplary record of achievement in the Student ADDYS and has consistently won Best of Show including National Student ADDYs Best of Show Winner, Jeff Hunter (2007).
Student ADDYs Call for Entries is in February with winners announced at the San Diego ADDYs Creative Show in March.
Quotable
"We always say, 'Have faith in the process, even though you have to go through a period where you're confused."
Alex Bogusky, Crispin Porter Bogusky bio from July 2008 San Diego Ad Club "Evening with Alex Bogusky"
Alex joined Crispin and Porter Advertising in 1989 as an art director. He became the creative director five years later, a partner in 1997 and a co-chairman in January 2008.
Under Alex's direction, Crispin Porter Bogusky has grown to more than 700 employees, with offices in Miami, Boulder, Los Angeles, and London.
Alex's work has won hundreds of top industry awards including the Grand Prix at the Cannes International Advertising Festival in all five categories: Sales Promotion, Media, Cyber, Titanium, and Film. Alex was inducted into the American Advertising Federation's Hall of Achievement in 2002.
Most Mondays, he comes to work with at least one grisly, blood-oozing injury that forces people to look away. He has a photographic memory, but only for ads.
