Ad Club’s
Summer Splash III – A Good Time for A Good Cause!
Due
to the State of California budget crisis, San Diego State
University must cancel numerous classes. One program that
was due to be cancelled is the two-semester class tied into
the American Advertising Federation’s National Student
Advertising Competition (NSAC). As you probably know, each
year national advertisers sponsor this competition and Yahoo!
will be the sponsor for the coming year. Past sponsors have
included Chrysler, Hallmark, Kodak, Bank of America, just
to name a few. Last year the sponsor was the State of Florida
Tourism and the SDSU team won the district competition and
placed 11th in the nation at the finals last June.
As you know,
this is a major project of the Ad Club and the students
tell us this is the singularly most beneficial class they
have taken in their college experience. It is a real world
case study judged by the clients and agencies responsible
for developing the brand. And employers tell us that when
they see on a resume that a student has competed at the
NSAC, they know that this is a candidate for serious consideration.
The San Diego
Ad Club has been working with Dr. Joyce Gattas, Dean of
the School of Fine Arts and Professional Studies as well
as Bill Eadie, Director of the School of Communication to
keep this program on the schedule. As a result, the Board
of Directors of the Ad Club voted to underwrite this program.
Our commitment is $6000 due September 1.
Our
Summer Splash III fundraiser will help us meet this financial
obligation so do your part and join us aboard the beautiful
Hornblower Yacht High Spirits for a great evening of fun
for a good cause.
